We’ve discussed food in our Solutions series here at GTW, so now let’s discuss the only thing more important than food: WATER.
Imagine this: they’ve finally flipped the switch and the jabbed zombies are running amok! The situation is grim, and you need water. The good news is with just a little bit of forward thinking and skill building, you got this.
A good filter is great if you have one, and Berkey filters have the best reputation around town.
But what if you have no filter? You can distill it, learn to make a filter, or use a LifeStraw. The GTW community has yet to hear any complaints about those, but then again, has anyone had to actually use one yet?
In a pinch, with a plastic sheet, you can even distill water with just a hole in the ground.
To Life!
Here are some links to get you started.
LifeStraw– Perfect for any bug out bag, this straw-sized water filter protects against bacteria, parasites, microplastics, dirt, sand and cloudiness.
Get Water From a Hole in the Ground You can get a steady supply of distilled drinking water simply by digging a hole in the ground, putting a can in the centre and covering the hole with some plastic. It doesn’t get simpler than this.
Berkey – The supreme ruler of home water filtration systems comes in various sizes for singles or groups.
Distill Your Own Water – Buy one or use these ideas to be your own mad scientist and make your own.
Four-way Sillcock Key – This handy dandy item is used to open tamper resistant hose bibs on the outside of commercial and industrial buildings, as well as rest stops. In an emergency situation it would allow you to obtain water from one of these locations. Available at hardware stores everywhere.
